Festival of Steam, STEAM Swindon September 2018
Laramie was featured at this annual event amidst the exhibits:
As ever, the layout was very favourably received although the horse didn’t say much!
The most remarkable thing about the weekend was meeting Frances Yeo, Curator of the Museum:
It turned out her grandfather, Ralph Bullock, was head locomotive engineer at Laramie Engine Terminal around the time the layout is set.
What are the chances!!
Frances proved that locomotive driving was in her blood by faultlessly driving one of the Big Boys onto and off the turntable!
April 2018 update
It’s been far too long since I added to this gallery. Since the last addition the layout has been featured in both Model Railroad Planning 2017 and Continental Modeller (November 2017). A more comprehensive set of up to date images will be added soon but, in the meantime, here is a small selection to give a flavour of how the layout has progressed:
Derby Exhibition May 2017
Laramie Engine Terminal in the world’s oldest surviving roundhouse (dating back to the 1840s):
Railex – Aylesbury (28th – 29th May 2016):
Railex was to its usual high standard so it was particularly gratifying to get so many positive comments from such a discerning audience.
Here are a couple of pictures taken by me:
……and a couple of more ‘arty’ ones by Tim Shackleton:
York Model Railway Exhibition (26th – 28th March 2016):
Another very successful show with the layout working well and lots of attention and positive comments. These photos (apart from the bottom one by me) by kind permission of Mick Davies.
Sodbury Vale Exhibition, Yate (13th Feb 2016):
Pictures from the recent Sodbury Vale Model Railway Club Annual Exhibition at St. Mary’s Church, Yate:
All photos copyright Peter Kirmond 2016 apart from the top one copyright alan Shrimpton 2016.
Manchester Model Railway Exhibition (5th & 6th Dec 2015):
At the beginning of December, Laramie Engine Terminal made a very successful appearance at Manchester’s first city centre exhibition for some years. The layout is progressing, most of the month prior to the exhibition having been spent colouring the roundhouse – the difference this makes is quite dramatic:
Leeds Model Railway Exhibition (31st Oct – 1st Nov 2015):
Some photos taken by Paul Marshall-Potter at the recent Leeds Show:
And some taken by me:
Next public appearance = Manchester Model Railway Exhibition Saturday & Sunday 5th & 6th December 2015
Winchester American & European O-gauge show 17/10/15
Laramie Engine Terminal made its first full public appearance. Here are a few pictures showing how it looks at the moment – much progress but also much work still to do!
It’s now possible to see how the model of the roundhouse works with viewing of both the inside and the outside. Next job = painting it!!
More photos will follow as progress is made.
Fantastic. Some very impressive motive power
